When I got my diapers back in February, I was surprised at what would become my favorite diapers. Fuzzi-Bunz won HANDS DOWN! At $12 a pop (after bulk-discount) I figured they’d be my go-to diapers but only because I had so many of them. At first glance, I thought that the snaps would be a pain to work with and that there would probably be a little bit of leaking around them (they went through the PUL), but very quickly, they became my favorite and I was glad that they comprised most of my stash.

Now for the Review Basics:

LOOK: The Fuzzi-Bunz come in a wide variety of colors, though when I bought them they had no prints (now there are two, but they’re limited. “A Day at the Zoo” and “All Aboard”) When I bought them, all of the colors in stock were the basic, pastel baby colors, except for the Bright Red. Now you can find Chocolate Brown and a Bright Orange. They did seem a bit bulky at first, but I got used to that pretty quickly and watching my son scoot around in them is about the cutest thing imaginable. The Snaps and the label even ADD to the cuteness rather than taking away. So for Cuteness, they get five stars!

LEAK PROTECTION: Going from my home-made diapers to fuzzi-bunz was a MAJOR switch. We went from having a wet bed EVERY NIGHT (we co-sleep) to waking up dry and happy. We could go the whole day in just one outfit because when he used the diaper, it didn’t leak onto his clothes. The only major problem with this is that it is sometimes difficult to tell when he was wet. So we just got into a routine of changing every two or three hours and it worked out really well. After four months with the diapers, I can still basically say the same thing. Though we have had a few leaks when the diapers needed to be stripped. But compared to the week that he spent in disposables, Fuzzibunz rule all.

FIT: One of the major things I love about my fuzzibunz is the fact that they can adjust to fit pretty much anything! My son is rather small and when we first got them he had REALLY skinny legs. After we cinched up the leg-holes a bit, they worked perfectly and there were no leaks. They were REALLY easy to adjust too. Its a basic button system. and they have numbers on them so you can match not only the other side of the elastic, but you can easily match all your diapers to fit the same way. Another beautiful thing is that when my 3 year old niece decided that she HAD to try one, they adjusted easily enough that I didn’t mind expanding one of them to fit her.

QUALITY OF MATERIALS: This is where the Fuzzibunz went a little bit south, but it may have just been my batch of them. Within 4 month, 9 out of the 14 fuzzibunz I’d acquired were having PUL problems. The polyurethaine layer had come apart from the backing and I was getting quite a few leaks from those with PUL problems. It was sad. But it did give me a chance to check out their customer service department….

CUSTOMER SERVICE: When my fuzzibunz started coming apart, I tried what I could do to put them back together… well everything excepting the “Iron them, the PUL will melt back onto the backing!” That just didn’t seem like a project for me. I was envisioning this battered and burnt diaper with clumps of polyurethane lining hanging off of it. When five of my diapers were having this problem I consulted the website (http://www.fuzzibunz.com/) to see exactly the procedure for getting my diapers either repaired or replaced. Yay, new diapers…maybe! So I filled out the form and clicked submit…. then waited, and waited, and waited another two weeks! By this time 9 of my diapers were unusable and I was down to doing diaper laundry every day and sometimes twice a day. So I thought “maybe I did something wrong” and just re-did the whole process, including the waiting for 2 weeks! Then I decided to send them a pseudo nasty-gram. I explained to them that I’d sent in my complaint twice already and had never received a reply and still didn’t know the exact procedure for getting my diapers fixed! The next day I got a reply. Ahh, happy Karen. So I sent them in (with my receipt which by now was almost worn down to nothingness). It was a sunny day in Karen-Land, Even the Post-Office guy was happy. A week and a half later, the day before my roommate’s baby-shower, I recieved a HUGE box containing 9 brand-spankin new diapers with all new inserts, elastic replacements and even two packages of cloth wipes! Needless to say, Happy Customer!

SO, all in all, Fuzzibunz get 9 out of 10 (they lost a point for making me wait a month to get mine replaced)

So What Happened, Why haven't I written for four and a half months. In a nutshell..... Life Happened. OK, Here Goes!

Yup, that’s me, the Worst Blogger EVER! I haven’t written since February… when I got my diapers… and they were new and fluffy and never stained. Now, 4.5 months later, they’ve been stained, washed, dried, packed up, fit onto a 3 year old, and basically abused in every way possible. In my last post, I said I’d review in a week. Then I realized, in a week, they’d only have been used for a week … and that’s just sad. Now that they’ve been put through the wringer (literally) I can now attest to the fact that Cloth Diapers RULE ALL!!!!

So What Happened, Why haven’t I written for four and a half months. In a nutshell….. Life Happened. OK, Here Goes!

Month One: Getting into the groove of things. Stuffing diapers was interesting the first couple of days. First major stain! Got it out through (oh the power of zest and a little elbow grease).

Month Two: First major Trip with my new diapers. A week at my mother’s new house where the Washer and Dryer were still set up out in the garage…. about a 50 foot walk through a foot and a half of snow. There, I learned the value of washing every couple of days rather than waiting till the last diaper is being used. But I also learned that I have the ingenuity to use a receiving blanket as a diaper while the real diapers are finishing up in the dryer. Man that was cold!

Month Three: The dreaded diaper rash appears. I switch to sposies so i could use diaper cream. This makes the rash angry and it takes over his entire butt. Realize then that its a Yeast Rash and start treating with yogurt. Works pretty well, but doesn’t kill it entirely. Three weeks and one giant tub of yogurt later, I disregard the “DO NOT BLEACH” instructions on my diapers and the rash disappears completely, also, no ill affects so far. Apparently yeast can stay in your diapers. Very sad for my little man. But he’s better now, if only I could find a way to keep him from trying to rip his boy-parts off

Month Four: I take a job and discover that my husband’s hands DON’T FIT inside the diapers so he can’t stuff them while I’m at work. Thank goodness we got a couple of Grow-Baby diapers. No actual stuffing required, he just snapped the insert on and away they went. Also, my PUL is starting to come apart! Don’t know why. Its not with all the diapers, just a couple…. wondering if i can exchange them….. hmmm.

So, now its June and We’re ready to start reviewing. First up, My favorites the FUZZI-BUNZ!

OK, Richard and I got our taxes back and, because we had our little Zachary, we got a whole lot of taxes back. So before they came in my husband looked at me and said “would you like to get some commercial diapers for him” My face lit up! It was SOOOO awesome. So $394 later and a trip to Kansas City (because that’s the closest diaper store to us) I officially have a diaper stash! How fun is that!

Either way, I can start doing review now on the three types of diapers I bought. Fuzzibunz, BumGenius, and Growbaby. So far they’re doing well, but I’ll do a full review within the next week. He has to wear them for a while before I can get an accurate assessment

Much love to everyone.

We have the Buddy-Press thing to start the community site, but I’m waiting for one more plug-in (which will cost me about $50 so it might be a bit).

Hey Ladies…. Baby Zachary has decided to sleep today and let me get some work done. That means that there are a lot of new articles up (none of them have pictures yet, but that’s coming soon). Have fun browsing through everything.

Update on Baby Zach: Yesterday I was having LOADS of troubles with his diapers…. they kept LEAKING all over the place and he was starting to get diaper rash…. so I discovered a new solution. Use cloth (wait…. isn’t that the solution I’d come up with already)… But I used a wash-cloth. Its tiny enough to fit his little preemie butt and all I had to do was sew up a little cover to put over it which isn’t too hard especially since I had some polyester fleece lying around. I wrote about this on Baby-Center too if you’re on there… but I’ll put the picture up here too…. The little outfit sitting next to him is a PREEMIE outfit and its STILL way too big for him…. I guess the diaper stash that I have already will have to wait a little bit… but for now, wash-clothes to the rescue.

Hey ladies, I’m finally home from the hospital and able to work on things again. We spent the last couple days just getting little Zachary Curtis all settled in. He came at 12:45 AM on the 10th and we spent the next couple days in the hospital because he was having blood sugar problems. But we’re home now and he’s SOOOO tiny! None of my cloth diapers fit him! (Even the preemie clothes that we have for him now swallow him) So I’ve been using sposies (blegh) and making him some little tiny preemie diapers so he doesn’t have to stay in them… I hate the smell, its so gross!!!! I’ve just been doing contours because they’re easy and I’m hoping he’ll be out of them pretty soon and into the other, better diapers that I made for him while he was still in the womb. Either way, if you have a facebook account and want to see him (I’ll also be posting some pics on here with him in his diapers pretty soon) his name is Zachary Curtis Matthews and Richard (my husband) made him a facebook account the first day he was here…. yup, we’re dorks!

I hope you guys don’t mind the week-long break in posting, but more will be up soon, worry not! And soon after that, I’ll be able to start doing reviews of diapers on this little guy…. once he’s big enough to actually fit into some regular diapers!

Much love to all
Karen

OK ladies, I know I said I’d have the site up and running by mid-Sept, BUT its the END of September now and The pages are still blank. Here’s my explanation, as well as my plan for delivery.

For the past couple of weeks, my baby’s been really messing with my body. My Blood Pressure went up to 152/103 the other day and they stuck me in the hospital and put me on a med that hasn’t been tested on prego chicks a lot. (Labetalol). SO, after a day of hospital food, watching a lot of MASH, and not being able to move out of a bed unless I HAD to use the restroom, they sent me home with a more normal BP (126/94). I’m still stuck in my own bed, but at least I have my laptop and ample supply of crocheting and sewing supplies (so the articles I was going to do videos on with the sewing machine will probably have to wait till after baby comes, or I’m off of bed-rest).

So here’s my plan. I’ve started posting the articles I already have written (I’m almost done….. just about 10 left in the whole big scheme of things) They don’t look very pretty yet, but there will be fun pictures soon and I’ll work with the fonts and stuff to make them easier to read. I’ll post two at a time, then go back and edit-adding pictures and videos and changing fonts- and hopefully by the time my baby is here (or I have to go back to the hospital), I’ll have everything done.

I go back to the hospital on Tuesday for them to check me out (and hopefully will be sent home again). BUT this time, I’ll go prepared. My laptop will go with me, so even if i’m stuck in bed, I’ll still be workin on the site.

Much Love to Everyone
Karen
