Sizing

Fortunately for us, most cloth diaper makers have made sizing fairly simple. They go by poundage. Though you may need to inform a sarcastic DH that the 15 lb weight limit means the baby, not the other contents of the diaper. Either way you’ll have to investigate the specific brand of your choosing to find the exact size of their diapers.

  • A newborn or preemie diaper is generally 4-6 lbs. Some diaper makers have this as “size one” while others actually label it as “preemie” or “newborn.”
  • A size 2 (sometimes “small”) is for babies between 6 and 10 lbs
  • A size 3 (medium) is for babies between 10 and 15 lbs
  • A size 4 (large) is for babies between 16 and 22 lbs
  • And finally a size 5 (XL) is for babies between 22 and 35 lbs
    • You could also opt for the “One Size” diapers. These come with a series of snaps (generally) so that you can “size” he diaper to fit the baby from 4 lbs all the way up to 35. Of course, in the beginning, these will be much bulkier than getting a sized diaper.

To make sure the diaper fits properly follow these two simple rules.
      1. The diaper should fit snuggly around the waist and legs (gaps will cause leakage)
      2. The diaper should NOT leave red-marks.
