Start-Up Packages

Packages

Fortunately for you, many websites offer packages with all of the diapers, inserts, covers, etc. that you might need to use that type of diaper. Though many people enjoy mixing and matching, some just want one type of diaper and they buy all they need in that type of that brand.

That being said, there are three types of start-up package that I’ve found. The Basic Start-Up Package, the “Try these dipes” package, and the “mix and match” package.

Basic Start up
The Basic Start up package will usually contain at least 2 dozen (24) of the diapers you’ve ordered and all of the things that go with them. For instance, if you buy a OS AIO diaper start-up pack, you will receive 24 AIO diapers and nothing else. Because doublers aren’t essential for AIOs, they wouldn’t be included. Some people find, however that they are needed and end up buying them. If you buy a OS Pocket-Diaper Start-Up pack, then you’ll generally find 24 diapers, 24 small inserts and 12-15 larger inserts. The smaller inserts will be used when the baby is an infant and then as doublers when the baby grows. You are only supplied with a dozen or so of the larger ones, because by the time the child is going to use them, you wont be going through as many diapers per day.

Try These Diapers
They aren’t always called “try these dipes” packages, but that’s basically what they are. Many mothers want to try out a type of diaper on their child before purchasing a whole fleet of them. Therefore, many sites have offered packages that include 3-5 of the diapers and their respective accessories. This provides you with enough diapers to test how well they stand up in your washing machine, how well they fit your child, how easy they are to change, and many other different things without sticking you with a bunch of diapers you don’t want.
Also, many of the companies offer to allow you to return the diapers. Because they only sent you a few, they don’t get stuck with a lot of used diapers to try to sell, and they don’t have to go through the hassle of refunding your money, re-packaging the diapers, and listing them as used (which they would have to sell for less.)
All around, the 3-5 diaper “Try These Diapers) packages are a fairly good deal. While they aren’t as discounted as the “Basic Start-Up” packages, they still allow you to try the diapers without spending all the money you would buying them individually and giving you the option of returning them if you’re not satisfied.

Mix and Match
I think that the most fun of the diaper packages on a lot of sites are the “mix and match” packages. These include one or two diapers from every brand (or whatever brands you choose) on the site. This way, you get the chance to see what works for you, your child, and your lifestyle.
Most of these are customizable, so I can’t really give you a “this is standard” But I can suggest that if you order a mix and match package, you get at least 3 of each type of diaper if it is possible. Again, this will allow you to test all of the different things you need to find out before choosing a type of diaper.
When you’re done with your testing, most of the time you can send the whole package back, keep all of them (if you want), or just keep the ones you want. It is a beautiful system and makes it very easy for you, as the customer, to figure out which diaper works best.
