Ease of Use
Another reason I’ve chosen to cloth diaper is that its not as hard as it used to be… seriously. There are several diapering systems that are just as easy as disposables. You can still get the fold-fold-fold-pin-cover kind, but you don’t have to. Though flats and prefolds aren’t that hard either. Especially with the invention of the snappi and the way diaper pins are being made today. There are several types of flat and prefold diaper folds that are just EASY to do (like the twist).
But, if you don’t want to use fold and cover method, we have All in One’s, All in Two’s, and Pocket diapers which are all types of cloth diaper that basically look like a disposable, only made out of cloth. They have velcro or snaps as fasteners (I’d suggest snaps for an older child). They seriously go on just like a disposable diaper and most of the time, you can get ones that fit better than sposies.
And if you’re worried about getting poo in the washing machine, worry not! That’s why Diaper-Sprayers were invented. You spray the fecal matter into the toilet, and dump the diaper into your dry-pail to await washing…. no poop in the diaper, no poop in the machine, no problems. Another deterrent to poo in the washer is using a scraper. Again, just scrape the poo into the toilet…. voila poo-free diaper! I like the sprayer because it works better, but hey.
Unless you’re using wool stuff, washing diapers is as simple as washing clothes. Once you find the detergent that works for you and your diapers (which can be an interesting task), wash them like regular clothes. Even if you’re not one for doing a lot of laundry, it doesn’t add THAT much to your day. Dump them in the washer for a rinse, add detergent (types are discussed in a different article), and then chuck them in the dryer or hang them to dry.
